During the Basolanprocess, wool is treated with an organic chlorine donating compound, which etches the surface of the wool fibre, inducing a shrink-resistant effect, making Basolan treated wool suitableto produce knitted products which will be labelled as either Dry Clean Only or Hand Washable.
Because of the etching of the surface of the wool fibres, this upon dyeing enables the dyestuff to penetrate the fibres more deeply thus resulting in a more intense depth and brightness of colour.
The Basolan process also enhances the whiteness, and brightness of the wool as well as the bulk, and provides for a natural hand feel (Softness).
The process also improves the spinnability of the fibre and generally offers better resistance to pilling.
